Launching The Kite

Exclusive to KWTV, Fat Sand introduce a cut from their Progression: Beginner DVD that deals with equipping you with all you need to know to launch your kite safely

Getting it up:
1. If the person that is to launch your kite isn't a kitesurfer or has never launched a kite before, explain clearly exactly what you want them to do, including what signals you'll give them when you want the kite released.
2. Put on your helmet as you're now ready to launch. Be certain that your assistant knows only to release the kite on your signal and at no other time.
3. Turn the kite over and position it in your assistant's hands.
4. Go back to the bar and attach yourself to the kite leash. Tense the lines at 90 degrees to the wind so that the kite is flapping.
5. Check the lines are untangled: it's extremely important they are correct!
6. Once you're sure the lines are OK, walk upwind to get tension in the kite.
7. Give the thumbs up signal and slowly pilot the kite up to 10 o'clock with one hand on the chicken-loop release system in case you need to eject. Check the kite's reaction making sure it's not shaking, over-powered or moving back and forth.
